Making a guide, asking for help

PostTue Apr 15, 2014 5:31 am

I feel that some of the biggest obstacles to getting in a game like this is the amount of information that needs to be processed (aka, learning curve). While most of us have toughed it out and learned, some are not so patient or quick on the uptake.
To this end, I tried my hand at making an English guide on the Steam page, to help newbies ease into the game. It's gone through a few edits, mostly me adding more information. However, I am reaching the end of my knowledge - specifically descriptions of units, tactics, and other advanced information.
So if it isn't too much to ask of you guys, could you help me? This game is a good one so far, with potential to be one of the better games available in the market. New players are the lifeblood of a game as people get bored, take breaks or just leave.

Guide is here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248147700
Any help is appreciated you guys.

Cheers.

Nice work !

About Disengaging, you wrote "The chance your unit gets hit is the same as your opponent's chance to hit you on an attack."
This is not exactly true : Hand-to-hand attacks are resolved using ACC vs PAR, while disengaging (and shooting) is ACC vs DOD.

By the description - true
but getting -15% to hit situation is quite common while it shouldn't be se easy by bthe numbers... even with deffensive stance.
On the other hand in HtH ACC VS PAR its hard (even wih deff stance) to get even below 30%.

Updated, still need some help with the following:
  • Sample 400 pt builds new players can use. Budget is 4000 ducats.
  • Formatting
  • Glossary of keywords and slang

nice idea. About the first point it might be a boomerang unless you plan to adjust the guide at every patch as many things can change (like the AP).

if the budget is so low you are basically pushing for zerg comps ;-)

Right now I'm trying to break down the guide into its components. My biggest gripe with it is that its is a big-ass wall of text that pushes people away. It also has a bunch of interconnected things that make it difficult to organize properly.

As for the budget, I see your point about the restriction pushing for zerg, but I think I would like to push for people to find a unit a build around it, like in the case of a Ram Nuker priest comp.
Edit: The comps aren't supposed to be super competitive, but they should provide a model for new players to look at. I would like to include justifications to give newbies an idea as to how army building works.

Rather than specific builds I would talk about specific combos for each faction which you can use to build lists around

ie: Lion
Valkyrie and Archer.
Mage and Spark.

These are unlikely to change in a drastic way and thus you won't need to keep updating the guide.
