Player that let the time run out!

PostMon Feb 10, 2014 2:15 am

Hello!
I'm new to this game and i enjoy it a lot!
Currently i'm in a game with a dishonest player:
He did an army of undead and send them in all the corner of the map.
Every single turn he let the time run out,but he was there cause he keept conjuring the skeletons and run for the map.
The result is that this will be a draw with a lot of wasted time (40 sec x 6 unit = 4Min/turn)
Probably there's the rule "no name no shame" ,so i'm asking:how to report this moron?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english!

We all face these retards sometimes.

I see two kinds of idiots who play a match going for a draw:

1- If they are not 100% sure they can win after seeing your army, they will sit somewhere safe around the border of the map, waiting to see if you will blindly charge them and give them an easy victory. If you do your part by advancing carefully, he won't do the same, he will remain in his hiding place and hope you will give them an easy victory by leaving all cover and obstacles behind so you can reach their spot. They won't move forward, like you did, until both armies meet at some point. If they can't have their easy victory where they are hiding, the match ends in a draw.

2- The second kind of player is usually wolfen, they advance to meet your army, but since they have more movement than you, as soon as they see they will lose, they run away and you won't be able to finish them off by the end of turn 10 with your remaining units.

Both are cowards who shouldn't be playing this game, but the devs are already thinking about the options to deal with such players.

I dont think what you describe is cowardness is just people trying not to play HI-IM-A-BRUISER-AND-I-KILL-ALL-YOUR-UNITS-ONEVSFOUR creatures like PoB/Skull/KoL... if then you expect a necromancer or magician units to engage then probably is not the enemy who wants an easy win.
If you have problems with the current balance that is another matter.

Advancing quickly yet carefully, the other player's archer(s) shouldn't get more than 1 free attack before you're engaged with their army if you make sure you leave your units behind cover at every turn (solid cover like rocks, not bushes), and you move far enough each turn to engage them on turn 2 or 3. Wolven have a much easier time with this with their high movement and fewer units so less chance of running out of cover.

Maybe it can be toned down if other people think it's too abusive. I can't really say. Just offering up what I do vs valk, archer, KoL heavy armies and I have not felt overwhelmed or that I was at a disadvantage. Once engaged the balance is made up for when wolven outmaneuver to engage the archer, and Ram uses their superior numbers to throw a spare skeleton or two to deal with the archer.

Most op draw inducing army however would be Lion with all elusive sparklings. ;)

That is not what I am saying. No one is supposed to charge with their archer or mages, but fleeing to a fortified position as soon as the fight starts and not fighting unless you opponent attacks you there is cowardice, yes. If you stay hidden around a safe spot close to the border of the map and your opponent decide to do the same, then what? Are you really calling them great strategists? You will have 10 turns with nothing happening.

There are players doing that, I know 3 and I am sure there are more (that fortunately I didn't meet yet). You don't have to play wolfen for them to do this, whatever army you use they will hide themselves and if you don't give them the clear advantage of moving to them while they wait in a much better positioning, the fight will be a draw without a single attack made.

If I have against a player who camp like hell and I see his team is heavily ranged or casters based then it is perfectly fine by me to attack, if you met players who use this tactic with bruisers based teams then yes they are cowards, I just wanted to point out the difference between using different tactic from the one the game's meta actually imposes if you want to optimize your chances of winning and actually being a coward.
I wanted to point out this difference because there are many who do not distinguish between cowards and brave guys who play without "ezy" units, and in your first post this difference was not showing.

But then you have to ask a player why the hell did he make an army of 90% ranged who is now forced to camp in a fortified position and stay there the whole fight, forcing you to "play their game" if you are going to have a match at all. In this situation, at least you could remove their advantage once you engaged them in melee. But I never faced an army like that, so I am not talking about them.

What I am talking about is balanced teams that nonetheless would not fight unless you deliberately decided to comply with their camping "strategy" in situatiuons where this would give them a clear advantage. Why not play fair?

In my dictionary those players who try new tactics, even if they lose, instead than being stuck with the meta deserve far more respect than those top players you with 30/0 stats.
Maybe the supreme WIN tactic for this game has not being discovered yet and if no one try new stuff and we all play PoB/Skull/KoL be sure that it wont be discovered.

It's not about meta. If a player wants to try a tactic go ahead and have FUN. But one thing is trying a tactic, another thing is calling "tactic" to camp around the edge of the map and do nothing. This is what I am talking about.
Besides, players who do that are much more worried about winning than I am, that's why for them it's either a draw or going after them in their hiding spot.

EDIT: Also, you should note that I did write I have never faced a "ranged army" like your hypothetical example, and that at least in that case it wouldn't be such a a problem, so it's obvious I am not talking about it. You shouldn't accuse me of things I didn't say by quoting only part of what I write.
