This is a difficult one for me. As a Blood Bowl player I find the injuries to be very tame in this. In that I have had more than once a star player die because he tried to move a 1 extra square to score ( a 2+ roll on a d6). So I miss a Touch Down and lose a star player that takes a lot longer to level than a unit in this, and may in fact be 'unique' and extremely hard to replace. There are no healing cards, the player will be removed from your roster. As tragic as they can be in BB, I learnt to love injuries and I never fielded a team focussed on hurting players.
That said, I think it is a good point that if it does not add anything to the game then why is it there? Also these things being random mean the odd player will be effected more than the average. The injuries do little for the most part, but a bad run of them especially early in a companies career could be pretty game breaking for some.
I would really like an injury system but by most peoples responses it would appear to be more trouble than it is worth. Even for me they are not currently adding anything to the game.
Maybe injuries should only occur in ranked matches, and heal with games missed or real life time. Something like that could add deeper company management to the rankings. In real life sports codes a season for a team can often be decided by a bad run of injuries or the opposite: always having the best team able to take to the field. This type of thing would probably mean you needed to have a bigger list of units ie: more merc slots available. I think instead of merc slots you should be able to store 200AP worth of units + 50AP per guild level or something to that effect.
