This is why I suggested:

1) Only units with at least a level can be saved (Basically, they made a name for themselves, so you can "remember" them. Level 1 troops would be anonymous to you, so you don't really care if you get the one you had or a new blocke: They'll do the same job.

2) There's a Ducas/Cyan fee: If you want to keep an unit, ti's because it's worth it. The fee could be the same or a bit less as buying a new one, but at least you got it already as you wanted: customised its colour/name/etc... instead of having it wasted when you destroy your company. The fee is there to limit the extensive use of the Tavern to only the units you really like, with which you'd want to reform a company.

If you want more unit's slots you can unblock them lvling up or with Cyans.

I don't think this is necessarily true. They could easily limit not being able to the troops you get for free when you create a company into the Barracks. The Barracks can only be for the units you purchase through the store.

I agree. But I've always felt this needs to be addressed anyway...The fact you can get a starting pack with units bypassing the renown requirements always seemed broken to me anyway. I think if this was fixed, the barracks would be a fine...

You should only be able to start with units that your renown ranks allows.

thats what i meant with deleting any unit that comes with a starting company, if you choose to disband this unit. You could also make it so that the starting units can never be moved into the tavern but stay in their respective company.

Or you could charge a fee for new companies of the same race after the first.

That means, you can have a free company of each faction, and have to purchase new companies of already obtained races with ducats.

Now that I've played a little bit more and bought some units and deleted some companies. I realize that if I ever spend real money on this game to purchase a unit and then I can lose that unit be deleting the company he was in, I'm am going to be mad.
If I spend real money on a unit, there should be no way that I can lose him... ever. Even if I delete the company he was in. This is why a barracks in not only necessary, it's almost a deal breaker.

If I am wrong and this is not the case, let me know. But if that is correct, it might make me never want to spend really money on the game.

I'm thinking game economy too.

There is no game economy because there's no way to transfer money between players.

I can think of no good reason why any of these limitations (company slots, paying to move troops, etc) should be in place. I bought the unit. I leveled him. I don't want to lose that work/money/time every time a balance patch comes around and I need to rework my company just to make it, you know, legal.

Ok, not you're pulling crap out of nowhere.

The skills are reset, the levels stay on each patch. And when I said game economy, it clearly meant, except if you don't actually read, that I was speaking of the money the developers get thanks to F2P system which keeps servers running;

Let me rephrase:

I have a company with eight units. I like this company. I like the units. I worked hard to buy and level them. Maybe I paid real, hard cash for them.

A patch comes around. It messes with the AP values and skills and synergies. Well, that happens. Now I need to remake my company.

I'm maxed out on slots, however. If I want to bring in new units, I have to delete extant units. That hurts. That hurts a lot.

"But Serdak, you could just buy additional slots with Cyans!"

I thought I was supposed to be able to enjoy the game without any RMT? Besides, even if I bought all the extra slots, the same thing would happen eventually - particularly if I was playing at 800 AP.

"But Serdak, Cyanide needs money to succeed!"

1. Then you must acknowledge that people who pay dollars have a real, in-game advantage over people who pay time. Maybe not enough to be pay-to-win, but nonetheless, someone with all the slots unlocked is going to be able to more quickly adapt to balance changes, and keeping high ranking is going to be impossible for someone who does not pay. This undermines any merit of F2P - which is why I'd just as soon see the game move to a traditional payment system.

2. I am perfectly happy with giving them money, but not if it doesn't actually solve the problem - or if I have to keep paying to solve the problem rather than paying once.

You're not rephrasing, you're going at a totally different idea and I agree on that one: We shouldn't be able to "waste" things we paid with cyans, and barracks would be ideal for it.

But I don't think that making it free to move from company to barracks would help the game in any practical way: Instead you should pay a bit of silver or (in the sense and/or) gold to make the transfer, to prevent abuses in game, abuses I listed above. It makes sense from a gameplay perspective.

Call it "Rent" for the tavern, I don't care.

EDIT: Genius spark: What if things you sent in the barracks had the ability to mend their wounds over time. You pay a tax that depends on the unit's level, the wounds heal over time but make the wounded unavailable.

This way, if you send a lvl 2 warrior (unwounded) to the tavern you must pay 100x(2+1) [100x(level2+REgular)] = 300
And if you send a lvl 3 Skûll warrior (2 wounds) to the tavern you must pay 100(3+3)=600, healing one wound every 24 hours, unavailable as if in a mission until healed.

This would mean that you get an alternative to heal your guys for "cheap", as well as giving a reason to pay to get there.

Will also take away "positive" wounds.
