Time for me to Uninstall the game...

PostTue Feb 04, 2014 9:34 pm

Seriously now,

I am deeply disappointed by the direction the dev took on this one.

Starting at Patch 0.11, things went downhill for me :(

Next time I want to loose my time on some [Redacted] P2W game, I will just make my own.

Peace

It is not pay to win, since if you buy higher lvl units with money, your army AP will increase, so that you'll have to play against higher lvl / more experienced players (that either buyed high lvl units or played and gained exp in the usual way).

The last patch problem is more a balancing issue (e.g. for the Wolfen, the Hunter now is useless, while the Lonewolf efficacy has been increased maybe too much: it hits harder, is tougher and also cast one spell before attacking!). They changed a lot in the last patch and it seems (with more or less ten matches played) a bit worst balanced than before.

Have a nice day,

All units and items can be bought by both ducats and cyanids - so option for paying is mostly for players that don't have time to earn ducats.
Or for players that like gathering ingame currency but want support Devs from time to time.

So for now i spent some Cyanides for paints ;)

I will just make my own.

proof or don't be childish :P

So by your own submission, this game lets you buy power. I will not be able to make my own conclusions on weather this game is pay to win since I only asked for a confirmation email an hour ago, and I have gmail, so it might take up to 2 weeks to receive one.

You said that you can buy all units with either in game currency, or with they real money currency. That in itself it a big red flag and it stating that you can buy power, what I've also been reading on is the problems with injuries and healing cards. You -can- spend in game currency to heal your units, or you can save it for stuff you may need in other places. This is another aspect of buying power.

Now what gets most people confused about pay to win is their own definition of it. That being they typically think that pay to win is a game where you have to spend money to win, which is simply not true. Pay to win is where you have all the options to play the game completely free and progress fine without buying anything, but you also have the option (this being completely of your own choice) to spend real money to bypass playing the game all together in order to buy power and bypass large amounts of the game.

Now we can go into theoretical discussion about how you can't buy power because you can'y buy skill, and how true power comes from playing the game and having knowledge of tactics and such. That may be true, but you can most assuredly buy an advantage in combat by not having to worry about having to go into combat without any disadvantages. Like I said, I cannot come to my own opinions about weather this game is pay to win till I am able to get into the game.

TLDR? All any of this is, is each person's personal opinions. We leave it up to ourselves to determine weather this game is worth playing and look for other people's opinions to concrete our decisions.

I agree with Dragon_Warrior now we dont have balance on ducats/injury/healings card so now its PtW but when balance will come back to normal this game will be not PtW.

cause buying new units ect. dont give y hi chance of wining game and take better place on ranking only unlock y account faster and give y more option in game but u can easly unlock it normaly for quest reward / play game and u can play easly in first 100 rank with no spend any money

Buying the most powerful units won't help you in this game.
Because it has its own way of balancing itself, with the Army Points (AP) system; in short, the Army Point of your Company represents its rough power output on the field.

You will always have the same number of AP than your opponent at the beginning of a game, so it's up to you if you want to put 1 very powerful unit on the battlefield, or 10 weak units.
Either way, it won't make you win or help you in any way, since the game is balanced with these possibilities in mind.

Playing 10 weak units or 1 big is up to your own personnal preference, and most players prefer to do a mix of both (2 powerful but-not-ultimate units and more weaker units).

As for the wounds system, it's a whole other matter. It is really a problem we are considering very seriously right now.
The behavior ingame is nothing like what we wanted, and we need to investigate if it's only design, or bug(s).
In any case, it will change - the sooner the better.

We do not intend our game to be a "pay to win" (and we never will).
It simply does not match our vision of what we should do for you to support us.
So let us assure you that we will do everything that is in our power to change that as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you feel reluctant to play online games because of the "broken" wound system, there are some things you could already try out in the game while we fix that :)

I think the real problem is that the game is based on a tabletop game, where usually you have to spend money to get minis to get a decent army. Basically it's the same here, you buy unit, you make your army and you compete against people with a matching army setup (like in any wargame, really). But most of the players are videogamers (probably especially the younger ones) who don't play often/ever miniature games or CCGs. My point is, irl if you play Confrontation, you buy a whole bunch of minis without thinking it through most of em you won't even field because you don't like how they play or they don't suit your army etc. Basically it's the same here. I'll probably spend some money in this game if I play it enough because it's just fair that devs get paid.
But if you think it's P2W, just buy whatever you want right off the bat and win... Or not, although it'd be actually interesting to hear from average players how they do with all their new units the first (few) games. Plus, you have to keep in mind that it's a skirmish game, so you lead a team, and team composition is a huge part of those games. And pointwise there's no way that a unit you bought for real money is better than one you didn't. You won't field the same comp in a 200 and 800 pts games.
Because if you do you'll be 600 points short. Different formats and game modes have not much in common strategically speaking.. The goal here is to find the perfect comp to beat everyone and be the first in the rankings. Sure, money gives you the means to achieve that. But play let's say Heroclix's EU winner's team or the world champion's mtg deck and see if you beat everyone with it and if you are going to be the next mtg champion.
When I read P2W I think of games where if you wanna be competitive you will have to keep spending money. You can keep spending money here. But face it, when you have your team comp and you like it, you're gonna tweak it a bit, or go with a completely different team. But by that point you will probably have enough ig currency to do it. If you're impatient, just spend your money, but whine about P2W? I don't think it's really appropriate and relevant.

Just my 2 cents...

On the subject of balance and AP, one thing I'd like to know is are you planing on reducing the AP of units that have a significant number of injuries, my thinking behind this is that for example a unit X has sustained -1 or 2 on some stats permanently (e.g. ATT/TOU) and Pariah and so can't use Orders; I think it's fair to say that this unit X isn't really of the same AP as an uninjured unit of the same type and level.

I appreciate that the logistics of factoring this into AP might be a bit beyond expectations with AP margins increasing with level and internal balance, so not a serious problem as far as I'm concerned, just something I considered/noticed as my unit's were taking injuries and losing effectiveness, but AP on the whole remained the same.

It is difficult to balance AP with injuries, because an injury depends also on the unit who suffered it. E.g. for a mage a -1 in DAM is not important or for a Predator of Blood a -1 in WIL.
