Spell success rate should be displayed

PostTue Dec 17, 2013 10:27 am

Another feedback that hopefully will make it to the next patch. I think it is very bad especially for new players not to see a success rate of the spell they are about to cast. While it is "easy" to calculate it for experienced players a new player will probably just assume that is always 100% until he will fail 2 respite of the dead on his critically wounded necro and curse the dark gods. I think it is always good if you can evaluate your chances and see the numbers :)

Cursing the dark gods is never a good idea ;) (except if you are a dark god yourself, then I guess it's okay)

More seriously, this is a feedback issue that existed for a long time, and that we are aware of.
I may have spoken about this already in some other threads; I won't go into much detail about this issue, but let's say that it's a lot of work to fix it, and though we'd like very much to fix as soon as possible, we just don't have that time just yet.

So... hopefully we will fix it in the future, maybe not too far away. Because we really do think it's a very serious issue.
But we can not do that right now.
Sorry for that :(

it is ok i can understand that. Luckly it is not really gamebreaking. Maybe adding some info in a in-game glossary might be a quick and dirty solution or adding extra text in the tutorial. For sure easier to implement, i guess.

Glossary would be great - I still don't knew how the Critical mechanism works curretly ;p
and still not shure about DMG calculation becouse mostly it looks like 9+DAM-TOU but not always - and if its not random why not to hint it when pointing enemy - this type of math may be easy but with some wounds and modificators become complicated to count (checking <by clicking> stats included) below 5-10 seconds ;)

tip shows 80% and my fail ratio is definetly higher than 5% - but second one can be "luck" only ;)
edit
failing twice a row with 95% ? im almost shure that its still 80%

on the top left corner you can display the dice rolls and it shows 95% with mastery of arcana :)

Hi,
If you have doubts with your spell success ratio, check the log in the top left corner. It's far from being complete but at least you fill find basic rolls, like spell casting.

The issue with the tooltip estimation is the fact that it's an estimation.
It's the same issue as the "unit fear" information triggered after an attack instead of before : the Client is only a viewer of what's happening on the Server. It's guessing as much as it can until the server sends complete game states.
We have plans to improve all of that but we don't have the opportunity to allocate time in this direction right now.
