Are you guys meeting your financial goals?

PostFri Apr 18, 2014 10:22 pm

I was just wondering if the devs are seeing the desired return from this game. If more money is what's needed to drive new content and development then have you thought about introducing tiered promotional packages available for sale for beta testers. The guys who developed Warframe did something where people can contribute 20, 30, 50, 100 bucks in return for limited edition items and a bunch of in-game currency. They also made it so that contributers at a certain tier gets exclusive access to private section of their forum where those contributers get to vote on upcoming content. I think the only thing DoW is missing currently is the incentive of limited edition content/items but maybe its time to release items so you can do a firesale. I for one am willing to make a contribution for such incentives.

i think their income would increase drammatically when they will make skins and new army packages available. Obviously they should be available also with the ducats. Also i always had the feeling that injury cards are bringing basically nothing in terms of revenue.

also one thing i noticed is that the top 100 requirements changed from about a score of 14 to a score of 6-7 =/

So what you're saying is theres fewer and fewer players playing this game.

Hey,
I will be honnest with you, your guess from the top 100 is correct : the player population is not increasing as we hoped it would. The average revenues from the players are okay. You're right, we could sell more stuff but that's really not the main issue with our game, and certainly not where we should put our time right now.

Our main concern is that way too many players leave the game after just a few games or days and this is what prevents the game from growing.
We know that we have a good core gameplay, but we think that we need to adjust what's around it. You mentioned, the injury system, that's one of the thing we're looking at, as it's probably not working as well as we thought it would. But there are plenty of other things, that we could adjust.

We're working on it, I can't tell you anything yet, but I'm confident that the changes coming up in the next week will dramaticaly improve the situation. Rest assured, we won't change the heart of the game but we're doing our best to identify what's not working and finding ways to correct it.

I have faith in you guys that you will figure something out. The core is good and fun.

I haven't played in almost two weeks now, I've been busy, but also I got to a point where I felt like I had tried and done everything I wanted to. I know that just playing the game should be enough to keep me going, but I feel like the need for more / the unknown is always a powerful factor in how you spend your free time. All I had was trying to get into the top 10, and honestly, I just don't have enough time to pursue that goal, so what is there but the fun? The problem is that I enjoy a great many things and one really has to outshine all the others for me to have time for it. I really do love this game, so don't take this the wrong way, I just wanted offer my honest opinion since you were so nice Dr. Ido to offer yours (which is truly appreciated).

Keep up the good work, the community has faith in you. You have already created a great game.

Random thoughts about what might get me jazzed again: One day tournaments, new factions.

I'm surprised to see so much honesty from a dev on such a critical topic. Well kudos to you. Other than that...

the problem i see for new players is related also (but not only) to the injury system: just because it exists they are afraid and discouraged. They will have a feeling of: "hey this is how they want to make cash! it is a pay to win! etc..." which is UNTRUE. High level players simply don't mind the system as you can have access to the quests but i can clearly see it is problematic for a new player. So on one hand you are scaring potential new players and on the other you mildly annoy the core players which won't ever spend cyans for injury cards. I see it as a lose-lose situation.

When you will start releasing unit's skin or portraits i'm sure you will suddenly have a higher income as those things are particularly cool...i know you can already do them because in aarklash legacy certain units which are 100% same as the current DOW units could have different skins (ie: the lion had the lioness skin available, alahen swordsman had a skin without the helmet etc...) so why not implement them? :)

Well, we don't have anything to hide to you guys.

Deep, we checked for your hypothesis some time ago (about players leaving because of injuries).
We concluded that it was very unlikely.
There is a huge protection against the injury system that almost completely cover you up until Rank 8 (or so, we made some changes along the way so I can't remember the current state exactly, but until Rank 8 you basically get no injury).

In between rank 1 and 8, you barely ever hear about injury (except maybe in chat).
Most of the players Ido wrote about do not even go to Rank 8 (or whatever is the current rank at which you take injuries), so it wouldn't be a case for concern.

Which doesn't mean we will not adress the injury issue, but we don't really think it's the main culprit here.

About the skins, well, this is a very valid suggestion and we have been thinking about it for a long time now, but as Ido said, we are not there yet. The issue is not the revenue, the issue is people not staying.

As much as we'd like to use a lot of alternative skins for our units, this won't solve our main problem (it might help in the long term though, but we need to focus on something else before that).

Other random thoughts about what could give the game more depth:

- Like was stated in a different thread, varied ways to win a match (castle defense, escort VIP from A to B, etc.)

- Long term goals (Play with a Company with 4 units at Level 5 and earn 1000 Ducats, Win 10 800AP games and earn 500 Ducats, play with a Legendary Character and earn 200 Ducats, Win 300 Games and earn 500 Ducats, etc.)
