It doesn't really matter against the Ram if i play right, theres very little chance of him dying to a gargoyle or an archer taking him out. He can just sit behind a statue or rock and fire away at anything that tries to move towards you. On the first turn if i deploy him as close to the heavy cover as possible he can get behind it by sprinting and then he's set. Maybe i'm up against newbs i'm not sure but i haven't had a Ram opponent who could win the capture area from me. So pretty much every turn Chimera tops up the surrounding unit's health and gives the Archmage Concience and finds a target for Scourge. Kerberos can't move towards you at all, i'm not entirely sure about Melmoth but i don't see alot of him.
Maybe Archmage is only good in a very specific situation but i don't really see Pyromancer's specific situation in the current game.
