Constructed an up-to-date composition calculator spreadsheet

PostWed Feb 19, 2014 8:10 am

Essentially, I set up a table of all the units in the game, what faction they're in, all available levels and upgrades, as well as the corrosponding AP values. These values are up-to-date as of today's (2/18) patch. I did my best to make each box match the corresponding upgrade's color, and I also made the layout of the boxes match how they appear in game. At least as far as I can tell. If anything is inaccurate, be sure to let me know. I was not, unfortunately, able to include descriptions of everything, but I think there might be a way to do so if I can figure it out.

You can use this spreadsheet to put together a composition, and the formulas will automatically calculate your army's AP value for you, as well as how many units are in the composition.

The sheet supports an easy method of use. You can simply double-click any of the bold fields and it will increment the value by 1, and if you right click the field it will decrement the same value by 1.

Note that the spreadsheet is not smart. It will calculate the AP value of having 10 copies of a magician's 5th (and only his 5th) level if you ask it to. It is up to you to make sure that your army is actually possible to exist before determining if the shown AP value is good for your composition.

And finally, it is entirely possible (And I'd even say probable) that this spreadsheet has errors. If you notice something not increasing correctly, or if you notice that I have some values entered incorrectly, please let me know in this thread. I would definitely like to continue working on it, as well as seeing if I can cram some more information somewhere. I also plan to implement a "reset" button in the future, that will set a faction's AP total to 0 without having to do it manually.

Anyway. Download the spreadsheet here (version 1.0). If you happen to run into "IConquer", my in game name, be sure to say hi! :D

EDIT: Updated to version 1.1. Download Here (version 1.1).
Changelog:
-Added comment boxes to ability options describing their effects.
-Added comment boxes to unit titles stating their innate attributes.
-Added functionality to the "Reset" buttons, double-click to instantly set the army values to nothing.
-After realizing that my forum name is actually the same as my in game name (I'm a little embarrassed about that), changed title of document to match forum name.

EDIT2: Quick and simple update to version 1.2. Download Here (Version 1.2).
Changelog:
-Added AP totals next to the names of the units so you know how much of your army is a given unit type.
-Added comment boxes on the "base" cells of each unit containing that unit's base stats for easy reference.

Over 24 hours and not even a comment? Are people not understanding the layout? I've been using it for lions and it's proved accurate so far. Makes planning much easier for me. Criticism and/or suggestions would be nice too!

I will check this out tomorrow but what a great idea, thanks for the effort. Don't worry about lack of replies, the forum traffic is a bit light atm but things are picking up.

Updated to version 1.1.

A note is that the comment boxes seemed to have limited size, so that if there was too much text it would cut much of it off. I shortened as much of everything as I could, but some abilities could not properly be described without more text. Some abilities will have more text in the comment boxes than room allows, you should be able to read the full description by left clicking the box once, and going to View > Edit Comment. The arrow keys will then allow you to navigate the comment box.

If anyone knows a method to increase comment box sizes or can figure out a way to describe the longer abilities in a shorter manner, be sure to let me know and I'll try to get a fix out for it.

oh, and to be able to read the comment box, you should be able to just hover your mouse over the box and the comment will appear next to it. This way you can easily read each of the ability options open to the unit while building it without having to refer to the in game source with constant alt-tabbing.

I've actually been looking into using google drive.

what kind of app are you talking about? just an executable? Do you think you'd be able to keep up with updates (as the game changes) or provide me a source so that I might be able to edit it when necessary?

I saw your post with your progress so far, and it has a fairly nice UI. My main concern is that it might be a bit less convenient to use, but that's probably just because you haven't gotten too much progress in the details and I'm simply noticing parts that are unfinished. I do appreciate the effort so far.

In other news, I've completed a quick and simple update to version 1.2. Download Here (Version 1.2).
Changelog:
-Added AP totals next to the names of the units so you know how much of your army is a given unit type.
-Added comment boxes on the "base" cells of each unit containing that unit's base stats for easy reference.

With the upcoming update, it is expected that the AP values of many units and abilities will change, so you can expect that the next time I update my sheet it will take a while. Hopefully the update comes with one of my days off so I can have time to mess with it :D
