Booting the game

PostWed Jan 15, 2014 8:53 pm

I got my key (Thank you Jolly Roger), loaded the game from steam, and was able to play a bit. I had a connection error, something wonky happened with my internet and I was not able to do much of anything so I restarted my comp. Some Windows 8 updates were applied during the restart(the updater may have caused the connection issues, still new to 8) If I start the game from steam I get a steam bootstrapper error. It eventually shuts down steam, and making it impossible to access steam unless I restart the comp. If I start the game without Steam, I see the small square letting me know it is starting, but then nothing and I cannot use my mouse to access my desktop. I also do not see anything running in my task manager.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it is still continuing. I am going to revert the windows updates and see if that changes anything.

This is my lua.log

game.log I am not seeing in my folder, may be that since I reinstalled and have not been able to connect I do not have one yet.

I will post here again if I get any change after the update reversion.

Hi,

that sounds like a connection issue from your side. Your computer cannot connect to our servers. Please copy here the content of your LobbyManager.log and DogsOfWar.log
Do you post from your computer with the issue ? Have you tried to switch off your firewall ? Your antivirus ? (if you have any)
If so, please post here the results for the following commands, using the Windows command prompt (shortcut : windows+r then type cmd and press enter) :
ping ns3002598.ovh.net
tracert ns3002598.ovh.net

What is the content of this address on your computer ? http://ns3002598.ovh.net:20600/Dogs/GetLobbyServer/
What is your account(Steam) nickname ?

We don't test game on Windows 8, but some players use it to play and don't have particular issues with it.

Steam is mandatory to launch game and connect to our servers. Steam Bootstrapper is the Steam client updater. If it fails, maybe you should uninstall and re-install Steam.

I have fiddled with my antivirus(on/off) and made sure to place the game in the exceptions list as well. The bootstrapper is failing only when I launch dogs of war. I think that when I am not getting a connection it has no idea what to do. Anyways, I tested on reverted windows update and the same issue came up. I did find that when I originally thought I had removed the game from local content through steam that it had not cleaned it out. The application and root folder were still there. I removed those, set it to install, and came back a couple hours later. I was once again able to play, but after I left the game client, the problems returned at any other time I tried to boot it up.

I can't seem to attach .txt files with the file attacher here on the forum, so I created some google docs and have pm'ed them to you.

Did you try to 'Verify Integrity Of Game Cache' through properties of the Dogs Of War on Steam?

Hi back,

logs you sent me and results you post here show that you connected successfully to our servers. You have a little "high" ping but that's normal from US.
Have you sent them after the issue came back ? If no, please repeat all the manipulations in my previous post when you have the issue.

The bootstrapper is failing only when I launch dogs of war. I think that when I am not getting a connection it has no idea what to do.

Do you mean it fails every time you launch Dogs or it fails if you launch Dogs without connection ?

Sorry for the inconvenience and thx for your help.

I have connected an played the game twice. Other times it fizzles when I launch and the bootstrapper gets borked at those times. The logs I sent are after a failed attempt to launch the game. I wonder if the original lua was a result of my connection actually ending in game. When are those produced? If it is only made while in game, I have only launched it the second time successfully.

At any rate, steam is super wonky right now and I am going to re-install it this morning.

I am only trying to connect when I am connected to the internet.

Logs are flushed and erased each time you launch the game.
I need logs after a connection issue, and logs you sent me show that you played successfully... that's a bit strange. :?

Maybe you have in your folder other logs (DogsOfWar2.log, Lua2.log, LobbyManager2.log) ? Which may contain information about connection errors. They can be created if first logs can't be opened by game (filesystem restriction, another game instance running, opened in another program ..)

Your Lua.log should contain (at least at the end of file) "servers unreachable !"

Perhaps then, the issue is that the game is not launching? I got in game just a moment ago, but that log I sent was after 5 or 6 unsuccessful attempts to boot the game. There may be something odd with steam that just never gets to actually launching it.

I have no idea how, or why it launched this time. I will let you know after I log for this play session if I run into the same issues with launching it again.

Ok, have not been having any issues lately. This is either because fortune smiles upon me, I had some form of something that spybot fixed(doubt that it would only affect this game launching from steam), or avast hates this game. I was perusing my start-up processes, saw that avast was enabled, disabled it, and it seems I can boot the game when it is not running.
I had it on silent/gaming mode which may have prevented it from giving me a notification it did not like the game. If you like, I can mess around a bit more with avast and see if that is it, but it is the major change I made that allowed me to regularly launch.
